You know, we've pretty much all been enamored with the Zune HD's industrial design, but one unintended consequence for Microsoft was that it made its console look even more childish and toylike. It was inevitable, then, that a group of industrious Swedes would take up arms against this injustice and right the world with their Elegant Edition mod. Featuring three 120mm cooling fans, an aesthetic borrowed straight from the 1980s, and absolutely no shame about its bulk, this mod is cooler than the original in both the literal and colloquial sense. We'll accept no arguments to the converse. Better still, if you're willing to part with some cold hard cash, these fellas will build one for you too. We've got a few less glamorous shots of the redressed box after the break."

The guys over at the AcidMods forums recently spotted this dramatic redesign of the Xbox 360 and immediately speculated that it must be an act of clever Photoshoppery. And I’m happy to tell you, this puppy is for reals. (Read on for proof).
Designed by Sweden’s Industri Repro, the XBEE (XB Elegant Edition) offers a complete retrofit for the look of the Xbox 360, putting its guts inside a streamlined rectangular box that would look great in any media room equipment rack alongside your schmancy A/V components. Each case can have up to three 120mm fans to ensure your 360 always shows off its green ring of life. And if any of you are still doubting that this is a real thing…
Sure, it’s not quite as cool looking in the real world as in the carefully staged product photo, but is anything ever? Also, it’s a bit larger than I would prefer. The builders claim they built it that way so they could fit the full-size DVD player, while still centering it in the case. The extra space inside should help with cooling too. There’s no word if and when you’ll be able to buy an XB Elegant Edition case for yourself, but Industri Repro says it started production back in August 2009. More pics and a details can be found over at xbox-scene. In the mean time, if you want to build your own, here’s what they have to say:
“If you want to build your own XBEE u need: Aluminum plates 25mm x 598mm x 100mm and 2mm x 568mm x 300mm and a working xbox360 . Buy a press brake, laser punch machine and a CNC-Milling machine and a Anodization plant. Hire a bunch of efficient guys that know how to use the machines and it’s done!”
Simple enough, eh? For more info on the XB Elegant Edition, you can e-mail the Industri Repro guys here."

Zune HD-inspired look for Microsoft's baby
Don’t get too excited, the console you see pictured hasn’t been lovingly pushed from Microsoft’s factory gates, and isn’t an official pre-Christmas update - a la the Black Wii. It’s a designer’s take on how the Xbox 360 should look to keep in line with the equally clinically-crafted Microsoft’s Zune HD. Given Microsoft’s efforts to push the 360 as an all-round media hub rather than just a games console, perhaps it’s time its design – which initially struck the gaming world as a breath of fresh air – evolves a more Spartan, professional look.
Certainly, Industri Repro’s XBEE may look like it’s got a hint of NES about it, but there’s no arguing that its clean, square lines would sit alongside your AV equipment and other proper grown up stuff nicely. By comparison, the actual 360 looks like a big plastic toy. Unfortunately, it doesn’t look as though the XBEE will be available to buy any time soon. If you’d like to make one yourself, Industri Repro offers these brilliantly vague and easily achievable instructions:
“If you want to build your own XBEE you need: Aluminum plates 25mm x 598mm x 100mm and 2mm x 568mm x 300mm and a working xbox360. Buy a press brake, laser punch machine and a CNC-Milling machine and an Anodization plant. Hire a bunch of efficient guys that know how to use the machines and it’s done!” Easy."

"To hell with IPs!" Xbox 360 cried to TiVo HD. And for one night, there were no movies watched nor games played while the wire-crossed lovers embraced in the warm glow of the plasma TV.
The Xbox Elegant Edition, though born an orphan, need but look in the mirror to find his parents. But just because you know where home is doesn't mean you can go there.*
* Some details of this story were altered for dramatic purposes. The Xbox Elegant Edition is really just a mod by Sweden design group Industri Repro. It' s an Xbox, reboxed with more fans and stuff. And it sounds like you could write them and maybe even buy and XBEE of your own. [IndustrirePro via techabob]"
